Escrima is the national martial art of the Philippines. It is a weapons based system focusing on sticks, knives and improvised weapons, while also incorporating empty-hand techniques like joint locks and kicks. Escrima is known for it fluid and efficient manner, and is a highly adaptable form of self-defense. All interested parties are welcome to attend… no previous Escrima experience is required. Description

In this introductory class, you will learn some key aspects of Escrima, which include:

Weapons Focus: Central to training are wooden sticks (Escrima sticks), but techniques apply to knives, machetes, and anything else you can grab.

Adaptability: Skills transfer to improvised weapons, turning everyday items into defensive tools.

Empty-Hand Skills: Includes disarming, joint locks, and close-quarters combat, often blending with weapon techniques.

Synonyms: Often called Arnis (from Spanish "armor") or Kali, with slight regional differences in emphasis.

World renowned Escrima instructor, Jordan Farar, will lead this class. Beginners welcome... no previous Escrima or Krav Maga experience required.


ATTIRE: Wear comfortable clothing (t-shirt & sweat pants/leggings). Bring a pair of safety goggles (there will be a limited amount provided at the gym). Leave all jewelry (earrings, piercings, rings, etc) at home. Though we will train barefoot, please wear some type of comfortable shoe/sandel into the gym. Don't forget to bring water!
